In 2016, the Goichot family took over this grand Domaine, which was owned by the Perret du Cray family since 1798. Château du Cray has a 22-ha wine Domaine, north of Buxy in Saône-et-Loire. The vines stretch around the castle, which is located in the middle of a hillside, and have a very fortunate east-to-south-east exposure. The vines grow in clay-limestone, but predominantly clay soils, characteristic of the Côte Chalonnaise. By taking charge of the Domine, the Goichot family is embarking on the winegrowing, winemaking, and aging methods that have presided over the notoriety of Château de Cray for over two centuries.
Bottle 3: Villa Maria Private Bin Pinot Noir 2020 - Marlborough, New Zealand
Intense, elegant and fruit-driven in style, Pinot Noir is an extremely food-friendly wine that may exhibit an array of vibrant flavours including red fruit, plum, cherry, and currant, often with notes of clove and spice. An aromatic Pinot Noir with a lively personality, this wine expresses strawberries, raspberries and red cherries on the nose, the hallmarks of a classic Marlborough Pinot Noir. The ruby colour in the glass suggests juicy summer red fruits on the palate, intermingled with flavours of freshly roasted coffee beans and dark cocoa. Silky soft tannins and a hint of dried herbs linger on the finish.
