We have long had in mind the idea to produce a Cabernet Shiraz blend as our contribution to the proud and distinctly Australian tradition of blending these two varieties. An age worthy wine that would reward extended cellaring, allowing its journey of evolution to be enjoyed over many years. A wine from special Barossa vineyards, and produced only when the right vintage conditions prevailed.
The 2016 Integro is a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) from the Stonegarden Vineyard in Eden Valley, combined with a barrel selection from exceptional Barossa Valley Shiraz (30%).
It’s 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and the balance Shiraz, matured for 18 months in 40% new French oak. So, on the nose, the wine leads with dark chocolate and olive tapenade, roast beef crust and cocoa. The fruit in the mouth is dark and dense, and it has a tobacco, pipe smoke, dried fruit/Christmas cake spice inflection running through it. The texture is dense and chewy, but the wine exudes confidence and balance in equal measure. It’s a powerful wine, and it’s impressively in balance.
Deep crimson. Blackcurrant, hint mocha graphite, sage aromas with hints of tobacco leaf. Inky deep wine with ample blackcurrant, black cherry fruits, fine grained – touch al dente/ cedary tannins and underlying mocha, hint creme brulee notes. Finshes claret firm and bitter sweet. A classic cabernet wine with lovely density, volume and grip. Drink now – 2034
