Nestled to the north of the appellation, Beaune "Clos du Roi" stands as a petite 13-hectare vineyard, unquestionably ranking among the finest parcels in all of Beaune. This remarkable plot has a storied history, once belonging to the esteemed dukes of Burgundy and cherished by the kings of France, who regularly indulged in its exquisite wine at the opulent courts of Versailles. In the 15th century, following the passing of Charles le Téméraire, the last duke of Burgundy, these very vines transitioned into the hands of the royal vintners, thus bearing the distinguished title of Beaune 'Clos du Roi'—a plot fit for a king. With an ideal south/south-easterly exposure, this precious land is tended to in the time-honored traditions by the skilled winemakers of Domaine Louis Latour.
