Scottsburn is Penley Estates' first Cabernet Shiraz blend made at a premium level. The two varieties were fermented separately and remained that way until we blended three months prior to bottling. This wine showcases both varieties with some dark berry fruit from the cabernet and some lovely spice from the shiraz, the combination of the oaks works well with a hint of vanilla coming through from the American oak.
Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red black tinged hue. Fragrant blackcurrant and licorice aromas are intertwined with some blackberry and vanillin cedar over some earthy tobacco and spice nuances.
Medium to full-bodied with good richness and an elegant feel, flavours of ripe blackcurrants, licorice and blackberries dominate over vanillin cedar, earth and spice. Finely-grained, yet sturdily-built tannins provide an ideal framework. Long aftertaste of ripe blackcurrant, licorice, vanillin cedar, earth and spice.
