Podere La Cappella is an organic estate in San Donato in Poggio in the commune of Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, now called Barberino Tavarnelle in Tuscany, Italy. It makes Chianti Classico DOCG red wines, plus a Vin Santo del Chianti Classico DOC. In the estate’s park there is the small church of Santa Maria a Cerbaia, mentioned for the first time in 1043. This contains a painting of the Madonna and child dating back (it is thought) to the end of the 13th century.
Natural cork.
Made from 100% Sangiovese, the estate offers a Riserva every year, believing that they have the fruit to do so. The colour is a deep plum/purple, while the nose just radiates with cassis, chocolate, ripe plums and rich florals. Finely structured, this offers a seductive texture and real length. The finish is dominated by delicious morello cherry notes. Enjoy this any time over the next ten years. Love it.
Spiced cherries, red licorice, chocolate, savory herbs and pomegranate. Some wet stones and bark, too. Medium-bodied, structured and focused, with crunchy tannins. Juicy and vivid with a mineral backbone to it. Drink or hold.
