The Philip Adrian Cabernet Sauvignon is Singlefile's flagship red wine, made in honour of our patriarch, Philip Adrian Snowden. This intensely flavoured wine is made from only the best fruit grown at the Riversdale Vineyard in the Great Southern's Frankland River region. It is made only in exceptional years, with very limited cases produced.
Situated within the continental cool climate sub-region of Frankland River, nestled in the northwest corner of the esteemed Great Southern wine region (latitude 34°39’S), lies the Riversdale vineyard. Planted in 1997 amidst deep gravel over clay soils and boasting a strategic north-south orientation, this vineyard stands proud just 7 kilometers northwest of the Frankland River township.
Enter The Philip Adrian, the epitome of Singlefile's dedication to excellence. With painstaking care, only the finest fruit and barrels are selected to craft this flagship red wine, a tradition upheld strictly for vintages of unparalleled quality.
The year 2016 unfolded as one of the more varied vintages in recent memory for the southern sub-regions of the Great Southern, yet Frankland River prevailed, offering optimal conditions for late-ripening varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon.
This wine, a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon crafted from Houghton clones, saw its fruit meticulously picked and sorted in April 2016. Following a two-week cold soak in a small fermenter with minimal pump overs, it underwent an extended and gentle maceration lasting four weeks. Sixty-eight percent of the wine matured in new Bordeaux oak barriques for fourteen months, while the remainder found harmony in one-year-old (25%) and two-year-old (7%) Bordeaux barriques for the same duration. After a further twelve months of bottle aging, it was finally deemed ready for release.
Only 76 cases of 'The Philip Adrian' were produced in 2016, a testament to its exclusivity, reserved solely for vintages of extraordinary caliber.
