Have you heard of Vat 1? It's one of Australia's most famous wines. A marquee producer of Semillon in the Hunter Valley. This is one wine for longevity, but as you can see, we've done most of the ageing for you already. Good to drink now over the next 10 years at least.
Tyrrell's is an iconic Hunter Valley winery renowned for producing some of Australia’s greatest wines. Headed up by fourth-generation family member Bruce Tyrrell, Tyrrell’s is home to some of Australia’s most awarded wines including the iconic Vat 1 Semillon. Since 1971, Tyrrell’s has been awarded over 5,000 trophies and medals and in 2010 was named “Winery of the Year” in James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion.
A classic Hunter Valley Semillon, the Tyrrell’s Vat 1 Semillon 2011 is approachable as a young wine with the palate full of fresh citrus characters and lemon zest. And is still built for a long life with careful cellaring. The wine's crisp acid structure leaves the wine to a clean finish. A beautiful made wine.
Vat 1 can always be relied upon to deliver a pure, focused and linear wine, year-in, year-out; as a young wine, there is just enough flesh for a little pleasure, with lemon sherbet, lime leaf and straw; the structure indicates a long future ahead, and real pleasure will come at least five years down the track. Certainly worth investing both time and money to watch it truly come together.
