Bottle 1:St Hugo Ric Red by DR3 2021- South Australia, Australia - 92 Points
Secret Sauce" - Much like a magician guarding their closely-held secrets, we're keeping Daniel's enigmatic elixir, the "Secret Sauce," tucked away from prying eyes. What we can reveal, however, is that it's a symphony of juiciness, plushness, and an explosion of fruit flavors.
Bottle 2: Henschke Five Shillings 2021 (only available in the trio pack) - 93 Points
Deep crimson with violet hues. Fragrant blueberry, dark plum, ripe mulberry and blackcurrant, revealing anise, Dutch chocolate, fennel, mace and nutmeg. The palate is rich lush and concentrated, with layers of spiced plum and currant over liquorice and musk, excellent balance and textural, chalky tannins driving depth and length.
Bottle 3:Penfolds Koonunga Hill 76 Shiraz Cabernet 2019- South Australia, Australia
Since its inception, Penfolds Koonunga Hill has always aimed to deliver quality, value and consistency. The original 1976 Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet is a legendary wine that is still drinking well today. A perennial favourite at Penfolds Re-corking Clinics and at auction, collectors highly value its quality and longevity. Koonunga Hill Seventy Six is a multi-regional South Australian blend of Shiraz and Cabernet, a wine style that has played a pivotal role in Australia’s rich winemaking history.
A vibrant dark purple, and with the aromas we have rich coffee bean notes, chocolate, handfuls of fresh earth, a pleasing mix of red and darker fruits and hints of mushrooms. Completely seamless with good length and bold flavours, there is impressive intensity right through to a very long finish. Good extraction and soft tannins so lots to like. It will easily go for five to eight years in the cellar, if you prefer to hold off for now, although not sure why you would. This would appeal even if not celebrity-endorsed, although no doubt Daniel’s fans will want to get on board. (St Hugo Ric Red by DR3 2021)
