Description

Yarra Yering is a renowned vineyard located in the Yarra Valley region of Australia. Established in 1969 by the pioneering winemaker Dr. Bailey Carrodus, the estate is known for its diverse range of wines, including both classic and alternative varieties.

A brand new releases from Yarra Yering, the 2023 Amphora is a 60% Shiraz / 40% Cab Sauv blend, fermented and matured in two 500l clay amphora.

The fruit is hand-harvested and carefully sorted to eliminate any undesirable berries, then gravity-fed into two clay amphorae. The grapes are hand-plunged twice daily to ensure a gentle extraction, remaining on the skins for an additional two months before separating the wine from the skins and seeds. The wine matures in the clay amphora for a total of 12 months. This slow micro-oxygenation process softens the tannins while maintaining the purity of the fruit and expressing the terroir.

Food pairing
With its rich berry and plum flavours, the Amphora would pair beautifully with a variety of dishes. Try a roasted duck accompanied roast vegetables or asparagus and a rich cherry plum sauce. Would also pair beautifully with a hearty mushroom risotto.

Tasting Profile

Nose
A highly aromatic fruit and floral nose incorporating primary berries and plums. The entry is all fruit and juicy, then the tannins take a different and savoury form.
Palate
An iodine and earthy rustic feel to the palate leaves you with a dry, savoury finish embedded into the fruit profile.
