Aphros wines is a project led by Vasco Croft, one of the pioneers of Biodynamic farming and wine making in Portugal.
Aphros Phaunus Amphora Loureiro Branco is an exquisite orange wine crafted from the Loureiro grape variety by Aphros Wines in the Vinho Verde region of Minho, Portugal.
Aphros Wines is the brainchild of Vasco Croft, a polymath who, after pursuing studies in architecture, pedagogy, and sculpture, reinvented himself as a vintner on his family's estate in the Portuguese region of Vinho Verde, embarking on the creation of biodynamic wines of distinct character.
Aphros Phaunus Amphora Loureiro Branco hails from vineyards planted on granitic soils where, guided by principles of permaculture and biodynamics, a rich ecosystem of ancient trees, forest, and wild animals thrives. The harvest is conducted manually in alignment with the lunar cycles.
At the winery, Aphros Phaunus Amphora Loureiro Branco undergoes a natural fermentation with skins in clay amphorae lined with beeswax. Following a three-month maturation period, the wine is bottled unfiltered, unfined, and without the addition of sulfites.
As one of the forerunners of biodynamic farming in Portugal, Vasco Croft presents us with Aphros Phaunus Amphora Loureiro Branco, an orange wine of notable citrus uniqueness and profound minerality.
