Le Clos des 60 Ouvrées is a premier cru climat in Volnay and a monopole of the Domaine de la Pousse d'Or. It is technically a sub-division within the Caillerets climat and is planted entirely to Pinot Noir. The wines made here are complex but delicate, offering black cherry, minerality, and an elegant tannin structure.
The vineyard is at the top end of the Caillerets vineyard, on the steepest part of the slope. Clos des Chenes lies above, while Champans is on the northern edge. Clos des 60 Ouvrées is an example of Volnay's slightly more complex premier cru system, which, like Chablis, is much more fragmented than many other villages in the Côte de Beaune.
Don't Miss! Outstanding. An exuberantly spicy nose of plum, black raspberry and violet introduce precise and refined yet powerful tension-filled flavors that are built on a base of almost pungent minerality while terminating in a markedly compact, austere and hugely long finale. This is terrific, stylish and classy but note well that it's unapologetically built-to-age. In a word, excellent.
