Inama Vulcaia Sauvignon Del Veneto IGT 2022
In the 1960s Giuseppe Inama, purchased parcels of old vine garganega on the volcanic soils of Soave Classico. His son Stefano developed the fabulously textural style of the Inama whites, with fermentation in stainless steel and small French oak for garganega and sauvignon blanc. With his sons Matteo, Luca and Alessio, Stefano recognised the untapped potential of near by Colli Berici, for the production of elegant, savoury reds from Bordeaux varieties, (cabernet, merlot and carmenère).
The idea, as already with the Vulcaia Sauvignon, is to show value of the Soave the territory, not yet with its Classic wine, but with an interpretation of the Sauvignon.
This version, made from a super-selection of grapes, is fermented in oak, and we call it Vulcaia Fumé. Since the start, there’s been a great interest because of its opulence and its powerful characteristic of tropical fruit, coffee, citrus and floral notes.
The label depicts the floor plan of the Berga Theatre in Vicenza, built in the Roman Age (I-II century A.C.) under the Emperor Adrian, using the “opus caementicium” technique and soft Berici Hill limestone, particularly appreciated for the ease with which it could be worked. Damaged by earthquakes and a fire, the theatre was gradually dismantled between 1400 and 1700 and its marbles and statues were used in the construction of other buildings. The great Veneto architect, Andrea Palladio, drew the plan in 1500 (“Pianta del Teatro Antico di Vicenza”). The label shows the reconstruction of the Roman theatre’s floor plan taken from the fifth volume of Vitruvio by Daniele Barbaro, 1556. The architect Nicholas Wood re-designed and adapted it to the label.
