Les Grèves is situated in the North betweenLes Toussaints, Les Bressandes and Les Theurons. In French,Grèves means sandy, small stones, which describes the soil of these vineyards. It is the largest Beaune Premier Cru vineyard. The 2021 Beaune Grèves le Clos Blanc 1er Cru captivates from the start, boasting an assertive and inviting aroma of yellow fruit, ginger, and lemongrass.
Bold and unapologetic, it presents itself with a certain audacity! The palate is a masterclass in equilibrium—taut, fresh, and adorned with a delicate thread of acidity. Abundant in substance, the wine reveals a captivating interplay of spice and vivacity that crescendos towards a vibrant finish. An outstanding specimen, this wine is unquestionably worth the pursuit.
Equally lemon yellow, little nose showing at first, a touch fatter than the Bressandes, plenty of power here behind, rather more body and character than I expected, with good length. I can never really believe in the concept of white grapes in Beaune Grèves, but I am quite impressed by the 2021. Drink from 2025-2028. Tasted: October 2022.
