Chevalier-Montrachet sits higher up the same hillside as the Montrachet appellation. In 1913 Domaine Louis Latour purchased this 0,51 hectare vineyard from the widow of Léonce Bocquet, who initiated renovations of a part of the Clos Vougeot Château. This vineyard carries the name "Les Demoiselles" in hommage to the daughters of an early 19th century Beaune General, Adèle and Julie Voillot, who were the owners of the vineyard and who died without marrying.
Evoking the promise of an exceptional wine, Louis Jadot's 2021 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru Les Demoiselles (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot) gracefully unfolds with enchanting aromas of white currants, sweet orchard fruit, freshly baked bread, and delicate floral notes. This full-bodied and satiny expression captivates with impeccable incisiveness, boasting impressive concentration, lively acidity, and a lingering, saline finish. Undoubtedly a standout in the range, this wine exemplifies the epitome of elegance and quality.
The 2021 Chevalier-Montrachet Demoiselles Grand Cru is a step up from the Bâtard-Montrachet in terms of complexity and mineralité. Yellow plum and pressed flower hints emerge and lend more complexity with time. The palate is well balanced with a crisp line of acidity. This Chevalier gathers momentum towards a detailed, lightly spiced finish with just the right amount of extract. The 2021 has real pedigree.
This is a beautiful wine, made at a heavy cost – only three casks were produced from a half-hectare. The results, however, are outstanding, with focused lemon peel, white flower, and mineral notes that open up to show a bit of oak spice on the palate. The texture has impressive concentration, and the flavours run deep on the palate. The grapes come from the Jadot-owned parcel at the top of the slope that was promoted from premier cru Cailleret. This wine may take a few years to open up but should last at least twenty years.
