After the devastating phylloxera epidemic of the late 19th century, the Latour family made a bold and unconventional choice. They decided to uproot the ailing Aligoté and Pinot Noir vines and replace them with Chardonnay. This audacious decision set them on a path to create one of Burgundy's most renowned white wines.
Today, the Latour family proudly owns 10.5 hectares of vineyards, making them the largest landowner in the appellation. Their Corton-Charlemagne vineyards are situated on a prime section of the Corton hillside, benefiting from a southeast-facing aspect that ensures maximum sun exposure. The grapes are harvested at the optimal moment for ripeness, reflecting the family's commitment to producing exceptional wine.
