The vintage of 2019 stands as a remarkable year, yielding exceptional wines of unparalleled quality across a diverse range of varieties, all in abundant supply. Within this context, we find these wines sourced from venerable Yarra Valley old vines, boasting an impressive lineage of nearly 50 years. Within the realm of Seville Estate's Old Vine Reserve, the Pinot Noir emanates exclusively from the venerable original plantings dating back to 1972. Thriving within a single acre expanse, these vines bestow limited yields of 1-2 tonnes per acre, yielding petite berries and clusters. Exhibiting a profound hue, notably rich for a Seville pinot, it presents a subtle hazy pale purple undertone.
Extending its presence gracefully, this wine's impressive length is a testament to its inherent quality. The natural fruit tannins, thoughtfully balanced with acidity and oak, contribute to its harmonious structure, elevating the overall tasting experience.
Some tension and generosity work hand in hand. Even after a couple of days of tasting it shows superior form that will whisk it away for the long term. Dark cherries, red plums and some dark fruit, blood orange, rubs of earth and twiggy things. Very much an autumnal wine, it has those cool sunset feels. Woodsy spices, a little charcuterie and a touch of mushroom compost add further detail. Long and incredibly moreish with a seemingly forever super fine spice, yes, this is another excellent release from Seville Estate.
