Description

Presenting the second installment of an exclusive Chardonnay vintage, hailing from the esteemed winery that has earned the accolade of James Halliday Winery of the Year for 2019.

In the words of James Halliday himself:

A perpetual recipient of gold medals and coveted trophies at both the Yarra Valley Wine Show and beyond, Seville Estate stands as a red five-star winery, with its name elegantly highlighted in crimson. This distinctive hue is reserved for only the most exceptional of Australia's wineries, a distinction within an elite circle of the top 100 out of 2835. As I meticulously pored over the pages of the 2019 Halliday Wine Companion, the entry dedicated to Seville Estate – particularly its intricate tasting notes – left an indelible impression. The remarkable collection of exceptional wines crafted across the 2015, '16, and '17 vintages was nothing short of dazzling. It became evident to me in that moment that Seville Estate was the unequivocal choice for the prestigious title of Winery of the Year.

Our wine is a harmonious fusion, crafted from the finest expressions of two distinct single vineyard wines, positioning it at the esteemed Reserve level. For culinary pairings, consider savoring it alongside grilled calamari adorned with vibrant notes of fresh lemon and parsley. Alternatively, explore the intriguing symphony of flavors by accompanying it with a luscious burnt butter and sage sauce.

Review

The majority of the estate chardonnay comes from one site; an east-facing slope planted in 1996. Whole-bunch pressed and barrel fermented in French puncheons (20% new) and foudre. An effortless wine that has power but doesn't feel as if it's been 'made' or forced in any way. Subtle stone fruits, spice and a mineral note that follows onto the palate which is simultaneously generous yet restrained; the acidity in total harmony with the fruit. In a word - lovely.

Tasting Profile
palate

A good estate chardonnay. Nectarine, orange blossom, white peach and nougat. The oak, nicely embedded amidst the fray, directing procedures. Mid-weighted and dutifully sophisticated, while open and accessible enough to facilitate earlier drinking.

palate

That delicate creamy drive underpins a class act once more. Some tension, it's all white fleshed nectarines, streams of lemon juice flowing with ease plus a classy nuttiness driving long - think raw cashews and almond meal. A concentration of barbecued peaches on the mid-palate adds detail and it's thrilling to wonder where this will be in 5+ years. The fruit drive is the winner, and like Freddy Mercury, I want it all and I want it now.
