Sidewood Estate Mappinga Chardonnay 2021

The winners of the 2023 Adelaide Hills Wine Show, sponsored by Harris Real Estate/Taylor Bishop, were announced at a gala luncheon in March 2024, at Lot 100 in Nairne, where the year’s top wines from the Adelaide Hills Wine Region were celebrated, with this year’s event marking an impressive showcase of diversity, with fifteen unique wines securing trophies in various categories.

The Sidewood 2021 Mappinga Chardonnay was a standout, winning Best Wine of the Show, Best White Wine, Best Chardonnay, and Best Single Vineyard Wine. Sidewood Estate emerged as the star of the show this year, clinching seven trophies across three different wines—a first in the 26-year history of the Show. - March 2024

Sourced from our esteemed Mappinga Road estate, only the most exceptional chardonnay grapes are meticulously handpicked from our select, low-yielding vines. After a gentle partial whole-bunch pressing, they undergo a wild yeast fermentation process in exclusively French oak barrels, patiently maturing for ten months. The result? A wine of remarkable complexity, boasting tantalizing aromas of tropical fruits that gracefully unfold into flavors of lychee, white peach, toasted nuts, and crisp green apple. Its harmonious balance is accentuated by a persistent mineral undertone, culminating in a lingering, flinty finish. While it's already a delight to savor, with careful cellaring, its true potential will only blossom further over time.

Sustainably grown and hand-picked from low yielding Dijon clones Bernard B95 and B76 at our Mappinga Road vineyard. Grapes were chilled in our cool rooms for 24 hours. Partially whole-bunch pressed, then wild-yeast fermented in 100% French oak, 30% new in larger 300 and 500 litre barrels for ten months. The finest barrels then chosen to bear our flagship 'Mappinga' label.
