This exceptional wine originates solely from the Palisander vineyard, an exclusive treasure nestled in the Tea Tree subregion of Coal River Valley, under the meticulous care of Stargazer. It boasts two distinct parcels of Pinot Noir, thoughtfully planted in 2002 and 2017, each contributing its unique character to the blend.
The vineyard's rich terroir predominantly consists of brown dermosol soil, juxtaposed against the ancient backdrop of Jurassic dolerite, with a diverse tapestry of grape clones, predominantly G5Vl2 or Wadenswil, defining its essence. In the vintage of 2022, additional dimensions were introduced with the incorporation of clones Abel, 115, 777, and MV6, sourced from the newer blocks planted in 2017. Every vine is carefully tended, trained to an artful vertical shoot positioned canopy, ensuring the optimal conditions for grape excellence.
To craft this masterpiece, 20% of the grapes remain as whole bunches, while the remainder undergoes a meticulous destemming process, delicately preserving their integrity. A cold soak of three days precedes fermentation, heightening the wine's aromatic complexity. Following primary fermentation, the must is gently pressed into the embrace of French oak puncheons, carefully chosen from renowned coopers such as Francois Freres, Mercurey, and Ermitage, with 22% of these being new. This oak-infused slumber extends for 8 months, followed by an additional 6 weeks in tank, allowing the wine to reach its peak of maturity and refinement.
