700 vines create this southern powerhouse teaming oceanic flavours with complexity, texture and generosity. Unfined and unfiltered to show the raw power of this vineyard. Surrounded by the Indian Ocean to the west, the Southern Ocean to the south and the Blackwood River inlet to the east, the vineyard is also sheltered to the north east by the Leeuwin Naturaliste Ridge. The meso-climate of this vineyard is dominated by extreme maritime influences. Warmer soil temperatures cause the vines to break dormancy.
Salty, sea-sprayed fruit contributes to a unique and complex oyster shell character which immediately grabs your attention, closely followed by complex aromas of almond meal. An underbelly of savouriness is complemented by fresh lemon, lime and white floral notes. On the palate textured and mouthwatering, there is obvious chemistry between the fruit and the oak. Flavours of subtle peach and white nectarine. Lively mineral acidity and luscious texture. Pure, powerful and unparalleled Chardonnay.
A cracker of a vintage, a cracker of a wine. Reconciles the seemingly irreconcilable, the rich and complex with the refined and elegant. Aromas of lemon skin, preserved lemon, spiced apple, nectarine, white peach, sea spray. Meshes easily on the palate, works in balance and is beautifully delivered. On the palate gathers pace and complexity in layers of citrus, a touch of gooseberry, mango skin, spiced custard, stone fruits, nougat with a quince-like tartness/acidity that rings long and true through to the finish. Offers good weight, grip, flavour, flesh and oak integration. The only question left is when to open. Me? I’d wait.”
