Distinguished by its brooding and intense character, the Sonoma Coast offering stands apart from its Russian River Valley counterpart. Plum, dried herbs, and savory nuances create a richly aromatic profile. From its full-bodied entry to the saturation of plum and brambly fruit flavors, the palate delivers a captivating experience. The mid-palate weight is compelling, with tannins that seamlessly meld into the wine's essence. Refreshing acidity carries the wine to a finish accented by a lingering hint of sous bois, adding to its allure.
The Pinot Noir for this blend was sourced from the following vineyards: Drake, Falstaff, Starkey, and Terra de Promissio.
The 2022 growing season faced severe drought, with most rainfall occurring late in the year. Despite initial soil saturation, frost nights and uneven shoot growth ensued. The cool, unsettled weather during flowering led to variability. The season saw a mix of temperatures and occasional rain, including a hailstorm in May. Harvest commenced in early August, with success attributed to selective thinning of shoots and fruit to reduce variation. Despite challenges, the wines display excellent structure, site specificity, and aging potential, marking a terrific vintage.
