Fine-boned wine, delicate but not insubstantial. It’s all peppercorn and dried/green herbs, stewed cherries, sap, ground coffee and undergrowth. It’s at the cooler, sterner end of the pinot noir spectrum, as indeed the first-release 2012 was, but it has length and fragrance and much to explore. If you like your pinot noir ripe and full, sure, leave this one alone, it’s not for you. If you like a bit of a walk through the garden, with all its associated scents and exotica, you’ll certainly enjoy this.
