Renowned and respected as one of the finest producers in Burgundy, Bouchard Père et Fils has truly become an institution, known for the exceptional quality of their wines and the diversity of its many vineyards.
Founded in 1731, Bouchard Père et Fils has built up an estate of 130ha and, collectively, is the largest owner of Grand Crus (12ha) and Premier Crus (74ha) across the Côte d’Or. Bouchard Père et Fils represents almost one hundred ‘climats’ or uniquely diverse vineyards, including prestigious monopoles such as ‘Beaune Grèves Vigne de l’Enfant Jésus’ and ‘Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte’.
Situated between Volnay and Mersault, the village of Monthélie is not as well-known as its famous cousins. Nevertheless, the first traces of vineyards here date back to the 9th century. The "Climat" "Les Duresses" spreads over the villages of Auxey Duresses where it is the prize vineyard, and the village of Monthélie, where it is one of the most remarkable Premiers Crus. The 1.72 hectares of the Bouchard Père et Fils estate, often harvested a little later than the other vineyards of Monthélie, produce rich wines.
The 2019 Monthélie 1er Cru Les Duresses opens in the glass with scents of peonies, wild berries, dark chocolate, and coniferous forest floor. Medium-bodied, lively and concentrated, it's deep and velvety, with lively acids and an unusually suave, elegant texture for young Monthélie. From a late-ripening site, its racier profile distinguishes it from the more gourmand Monthélie Champs Fulliot.
Clean glowing purple, picked late, but this pays off with a really classy nose. Perhaps lifted by the whole bunch, which gives an additional ripe strawberry perfume. Crunchy and dynamic, with correct acidity, and the fruit covers any tannins entirely. Long and delicious
