The Premier Cru Les Folatières is located on the westward slope of the village of Puligny-Montrachet, with an average gradient of 10%, an altitude between 250 and 272 meters, and an orientation towards the southeast. The soil, a brown-red color, 40-60 centimeters thick, is very rich in angular, white limestone rocks. The sub-soil of Folatières is made up of very compact limestone which crumbles into thick slabs, used as part of a marble quarry under the name “Pierre de Chassagne,” or “Stone of Chassagne.
