Description

In perfect harmony with its Carneros heritage, the 2019 Sevens Bench Chardonnay epitomizes the essence of the region – a vibrant interplay of fruit intensity and impeccable acidity. Classic notes of lemon drop, Meyer lemon, and lemongrass grace the bouquet, setting the stage for a flavor journey where the citrus focus unfolds seamlessly. Candied lemon drop intertwines with the inherent mineral and flint characters, a testament to the region's unique terroir and clonal selections. Delicate nuances of barrel fermentation linger in the background, bestowing an additional layer of complexity to this truly elegant wine.

Intensive farming and low yields are the foundations of our Carneros AVA Seven’s Bench Single Vineyard. The vineyard is on a ridge at a 200-foot elevation, part of an uplifted riverbed that allows good drainage in the traditional clay-based soils of the region. The name Sevens Bench is derived from the two clones originally planted on our block: Clones 37 (Mount Eden) and Dijon 777.

Review

This bright, effusive wine is juicy in citrus and mango. It’s also flinty and bursting in sea spray, offering a lush, voluptuous midpalate of complex concentration. The contrast leads to a viscous, lengthy finish of floral beauty.
