Reynella Vintage Port 1977
Established in 1838, Chateau Reynella is seen as the birthplace of the South Australian wine industry, as they were the first to grow grapes commercially for winemaking in South Australia. Their first vintage was in 1842 after John Reynell received vine cuttings from William Macarthur from NSW. In 1982 it was purchased by Thomas Hardy and Sons and has subsequently become part of the Accolade stable. McLaren Vale fruit is used to make the Basket pressed Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, full-bodied and ripe styles from the warmer McLaren Vale. A vintage Port is also produced. It is now simply called Reynella, dropping the Chateau from its name.
Cheeses, Chocolate cake.
A totally opaque black crimson-purple colour that clings firmly to the glass. Superb aromas of spice, licorice allsorts, and crushed blackberries with marzipan overtones.
Superb palate structure, filled with the flavours of sweet raisins and blackberries which have been infused with fine brandy spirit. Perfect balance, fine-grained tannins, a touch assertive but well positioned for the long haul. Clean finish with warm spice, licorice allsorts aftertaste.
