Not to be confused with Grenache as we know it here in Australia, Garnacha Tintorera is a rare, red-fleshed grape with more dark fruit and chocolate characters. This wine is juicy and fresh, perhaps a touch lighter than most wines of this variety, with some savoury rustic characteristics and a bit of funkiness to it.
The region, Almansa, lies about 100 kilometres inland from Valencia and Alicante, whose extreme continental climate of cold winters and hot summers in conjunction with well-drained, stony, and nutrient-poor soils provide exceptional grape-growing conditions.
Spain right now is producing some exceptional value organic wines, that are now making their way to our shores, and this unique offering is a very welcome addition to that. Phenomenal value too.
