The de Vogüé Domaine dates back to the 15th century, even though the name de Vogüé name first entered Burgundy history in 1766. The Domaine has been under the same ownership for 20 generations – that’s very unique even by Burgundy standards – where most Domaines have been established after the revolution in 1789. The Domaine today owns 12.6 ha of vineyards where the main part is located in the two grand cry vineyards Musigny and Bonnes Mares.
Like most of the Chambolle area, Les Amoureuses is characterized by a slightly greater amount of limestone than clay compared to Burgundy’s typical clay-calcareous mix; the area’s higher percentage of active lime translates into potential leaf chlorosis and pale-coloured, lighter but more fragrant wines. When you are lucky enough to open a bottle of Les Amoureuses the perfume is intoxicating and truly unforgettable, you will be forever tuned in, to the charms, the magic, and the greatness, that is the Les Amoureuses vineyard in Chambolle-Musigny.
Huge dense black purple, inky depths as well as immediate opulence. There is wonderful intensity here - this is absolutely like a summer pudding with less acidity, more ultra-ripe strawberry, and less blackcurrant. A touch of sucrose. Could only be Amoureuses, the most sensual you could imagine.
A wonderfully spicy and exuberantly fresh nose offers up notes of dark berries, lavender, rose petals, jasmine tea, and a whiff of sandalwood. The super-sleek and almost painfully intense flavours are incredibly fine and when allied with good richness and minerality, it makes for an almost irresistible texture on the balanced finish that flashes both huge length and focused power. This is a marvellously classy Amoureuses that should amply repay extended keeping. In a word, brilliant.
