Description

Estate grown Shiraz of exceptional quality. No stone is left unturned in the production of Shiraz Reserve. The vineyards are cared for meticulously through hard cane pruning, shoot thinning in spring, under-vine mulching, as well as fruit thinning if needed at veraison to control yield and separate bunches. The fruit is then partly destemmed, often using up to 50% whole bunches in the ferment to create layers of texture, slow down fermentation and control temperature. The resulting wine is then basket pressed into 100% new French oak barriques where it will lay for up to 27 months depending on the vintage.

Sourced from the low yielding 'Mt Pleasant' and 'Six Splits' vineyards. The nose is laden with black pepper, cinnamon, and raspberry notes. Beautifully balanced and showing its typical natural acid backbone. Matured for 26 months in 100% new French and American oak hogsheads, which add a further layer of complexity to a long, full finish.

Tasting Profile
nose

The wine presents itself with a very deep, dark, glass-staining red/purple color, catching the eye. On the nose, the bouquet is marked by a pronounced oaky character, imparting a savory quality. Notes of coconut and toasty-barrel are prominent, accompanied by a delightful blend of mocha and espresso coffee scents.

palate

Upon sipping, the wine makes a powerful statement. It's a massive wine with a significant presence of tannins. However, these tannins are ripe and supple, contributing to a balanced structure. The flavor is highly concentrated and heavily influenced by the oak, providing a rich and complex taste profile. In the aftertaste, there are hints of brandied prunes, adding a sweet and fruity dimension to the experience. The wine's sheer weight and intensity allow it to handle its considerable alcohol strength. This wine is not for immediate consumption; it demands more time for maturation, but those who exercise patience will be rewarded. It possesses immense potential for aging and further development.
