Yarra Yering Carrodus Shiraz 2019
The Carrodus Range of wines was established in honour of Yarra Yering's founder, Dr Bailey Balfour Carrodus. A visionary and Renaissance man who led the renewal of the Yarra Valley vine plantings in the late 1960s.
We aim to honour his enduring legacy with very limited bottlings that highlight specific and finite areas of his beloved Yarra Yering vineyard. Wines that best capture the essence of his vision and the greatest expression of this vineyard’s unique place in the world.
Hand harvested a small section of the Shiraz vineyard for this wine, destemmed gently to retain whole berries into a 600kg fermenter for fermentation, hand plunging twice daily. Pressed gently and gravity filled to four French oak barriques, 50% new. Fruit sourced exclusively from a small block of 1969 planted Shiraz. This small parcel will produce around 1200 bottles each year.

From the small block of shiraz planted in 1969 comes a wine of distinction, thanks to the constant fine-tuning orchestrated by winemaker Sarah Crowe. Wafts of pepper, woodsy spices, iodine, and florals end up mingling with the pure fruit flavours within.
Ribbons of fine tannin grace the palate, as does gossamer-like acidity, holding everything perfectly in place and just allowing the finish to linger and impress even more. – Jane Faulkner, 2022 Halliday Wine Companion.
