Penfolds Grange Bin 95 1996
This dark purple-coloured wine exhibits notes of sweet plum, blackberry, and cassis intermixed with some licorice, chocolate, and espresso. It is a blend of 94% Shiraz and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon that tips the scales at 14+% alcohol. The wine is layered, unctuously textured, full-bodied with tremendous intensity, moderately high tannin, and a 40-second finish.
A hearty and flavorful dish such as a peppercorn-crusted steak or a spicy Moroccan lamb tagine pairs wonderfully with a Shiraz, complementing its bold and robust characteristics.
Strong color with dark reflections and a wider water's edge. Delicate black fruit notes of licorice, ripe plums, subtle mint, sweet spices, and an incredibly multifaceted, fresh nose.
Complex and tightly woven, exceptionally sweet, unfolds wonderfully on the palate, finesse-rich structure, underpinned by firm tannins, impressive spiciness, and length, with a savory-mineral finish, reflecting its remarkable, youthful condition.
