Savaterre Shiraz embodies a Syrah-style allure that, tasted blind, might easily be mistaken for a creation from the northern Rhone, showcasing exquisite beauty with sophistication, complexity, tension, and power. This 100% Shiraz gem unveils a complete wine, demanding a well-timed decanting to reveal its entirety. Highly perfumed, it captivates with distinct red fruit preserves and a floral character, presenting a smooth, seamless profile almost reminiscent of Pinot in its vibrancy and weightless charm. The discreet finesse of tannins and acid expertly frame this wine, elevating the tasting experience to a level of refined excellence.
Soft, supple and with surprisingly wide gauge. It's a very savoury expression but feels comfortable with its lazy spread, the softness of texture (yet finishes chalky and pleasingly bitter-dry), dark fruit meshed with truffle. Aussie bush characters and old spice cupboard feel to seasoning. The more you sip, the more the grip builds. It's an intriguing, individual and compelling wine, more akin to old school pinot noir perhaps, maybe a gentle, mature Barolo but lighter and finer?! Anyways, it's a pleasure.
