These vines, situated in the heart of the 1er Cru on the east-facing, Beaune side of Savigny and owned by one of Leroux's close friends, represent the ideal terroir for crafting elegant Savigny wines, especially in powerful vintages, thanks to the area's clay/limestone soils with their light and sandy clay content, resulting in a wine with more depth compared to the village cuvée while maintaining a remarkable finesse, and the 2020 vintage, with a minimal use of whole bunch fermentation, offers outstanding value as a 1er Cru that drinks beautifully upon release but will undoubtedly benefit from short-term aging of three to seven years.
The 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune Jarrons 1er Cru boasts an enticing bouquet featuring dark berry fruit, crushed stone, hints of briar, and subtle notes of Earl Grey tea, displaying an alluring complexity, while the palate, medium-bodied and graced with firm tannins, offers a refined texture and lively finish with a touch of mint, resulting in an exquisite overall experience.
Bright vibrant purple, deep raspberry with some currants too, this has a fresh overlay and is well in harmony, with an excellent fruit acid balance, much more than tannins. Good length too, showing very well in quite a refined style.
